FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to The Mustang Advantage

This magazine was created to share real experiences and hard-earned life lessons. It is not built from theory. It is built from war, immigration, work, family, faith, setbacks, personal growth, and the decision to keep moving forward.

My purpose is simple: to encourage people who have been tested, underestimated, pushed aside, or told to quit. Your hardest chapter does not have to become your final chapter.

FEATURE STORY

From Sarajevo to America

My story did not begin with comfort, opportunity, or certainty. It began in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where war transformed ordinary life and forced ordinary people to make extraordinary decisions.

I served in the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During that time, I learned that leadership is not about a title or uniform. Leadership means standing beside people when fear is present, taking responsibility when circumstances are uncertain, and refusing to abandon those who depend on you.

“Survival kept me alive. Faith, discipline, and purpose taught me how to live.”

In January 1997, I came to the United States as a refugee. I did not arrive with a perfect plan. I arrived with the willingness to work, learn, adapt, and rebuild.

In July 2004, I became a United States citizen. That moment represented far more than paperwork. It represented a new beginning, responsibility, gratitude, and the opportunity to build a life through honest work and perseverance.

MINDSET

The Never Quit Mindset

Never quitting does not mean pretending everything is fine. It does not mean ignoring fear, pain, disappointment, or exhaustion.

It means facing reality honestly and deciding that the difficulty will not control your final decision.

Faith gives direction.
Discipline creates movement.
Resilience keeps you moving.

PERSONAL COURAGE

Standing Up for Yourself in Healthcare

Many patients believe insurance will cover most of their treatment. Unfortunately, the final numbers can still leave patients facing large out-of-pocket costs.

My dental bridge was quoted at approximately $7,100. Insurance paid a portion, but I still paid $1,300 and later faced another balance of $593.40.

There were also problems involving the temporary bridge, the permanent bridge, the color match, the laboratory work, and the fit.

Speaking up does not make someone a difficult patient. Asking for accurate billing, clear explanations, quality care, and fair treatment is part of protecting yourself.

FAITH

Faith Beyond Labels

I grew up surrounded by different religious traditions. My mother was Muslim, and my father was Serbian Orthodox.

Life taught me that people often focus more on labels than character. Labels can separate people, but character reveals who someone truly is.

“Faith becomes visible through honesty, humility, mercy, courage, and love.”

I believe in one God beyond the divisions people create. Faith should help us become better human beings, not give us another reason to judge one another.

FAMILY & AWARENESS

Autism Through a Grandfather’s Eyes

Autism is not something families understand through definitions alone. We learn through real experiences, difficult moments, unexpected breakthroughs, and the patience required to see the world through a child’s eyes.

My grandson has taught me that progress may look different for every child. A moment that appears small to others can be a major victory for an autistic child and the family supporting them.

Autism awareness should include understanding, patience, first-responder education, safer playgrounds, caregiver support, and communities that protect children instead of judging them.
