Don’t Let Darkness Change Who You Are Choose Faith Not Hatred

Don’t Let Darkness Change Who You Are

You can experience darkness without becoming part of it.

Life has a way of testing us.

Sometimes we encounter people who disappoint us, betray our trust, take advantage of our kindness, or make us question whether goodness still exists.

We experience injustice. We experience pain. We experience situations that seem impossible to understand.

And sometimes, the hardest battle isn’t what happens to us. It’s what happens inside us afterward.

Do we become bitter?

Do we start treating others the way we were treated?

Do we allow anger, resentment, and disappointment to take control of our hearts?

I believe we have a choice.

The Light Within

Through everything I’ve experienced and everything I’m still going through, one belief remains strong:

I believe Jesus Christ lives inside me.

That doesn’t mean I never feel pain, frustration, or disappointment. It means I don’t want those experiences to define who I am.

Galatians 2:20 reminds us:

“Christ liveth in me.”

And John 1:5 tells us:

“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

Those words carry a powerful message.

Darkness doesn’t have to win simply because it surrounds us.

Strength Without Hatred

You can stand up for yourself without hating someone.

You can demand justice without seeking revenge.

You can establish boundaries without losing compassion.

You can forgive without giving someone permission to hurt you again.

And you can walk away without carrying bitterness with you.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending nothing happened. It means refusing to let what happened control the rest of your life.

A Candle Doesn’t Fight the Darkness

Think about a candle.

It doesn’t argue with the darkness. It doesn’t compete with other sources of light. It simply shines.

Perhaps that’s a lesson we could all learn.

We spend so much time judging one another, competing, comparing, and finding reasons to dislike people.

What if we spent more time understanding one another?

What if kindness became a strength instead of something people mistake for weakness?

What if we remembered that every person carries struggles we may never see?

My Final Thought

I cannot control what lives inside another person’s heart.

I cannot change yesterday, erase every disappointment, or prevent every injustice.

But I can decide what I allow to grow inside my own heart.

I choose faith over fear.

I choose compassion over hatred.

I choose justice over revenge.

And I choose light over darkness.

Don’t let the darkness you see in the world convince you to abandon the light you carry inside yourself.

A candle doesn’t need permission to shine.

Neither do you.
